Dr. Rose's Academic Support Hot Line - From Stress to Success!

The purpose of this hot line is to offer free academic support to students who are struggling - or not - in their writing assignments. I offer this service so that students can have that extra pair of "expert eyes" prior to submitting their work to their instructors.

My function is to support students in the successful completion of writing tasks. I promote the idea that writing is a process and advocate student ownership and input.  I encourage the development of student accountability and responsibility through the processes of self-editing and self-assessment in an effort to empower students for success in the global community.

What I will do:

1.  Offer guidance on how to become a better critical thinker, reader, and writer by helping students to:

    a. develop a personal writing style

    b. understand the importance of the writing process: pre-write, write, revise

    c. incorporate experiences into writing

    d. understand the purpose and importance of academic writing

    e. achieve mastery of the English language

How I will do this:

1.  All of the above can be achieved by helping students to understand the importance of:

    a. writing across the curriculum

    b. rhetorical concepts and rhetorical modes

    c. a thesis and overall organization

    d. diction and syntax

    e. grammar and punctuation rules

   What I will not do:

1. Edit or otherwise correct your paper into a grade.

2. Edit every little detail of the paper.

3. Evaluate the paper.

4. Discuss your instructors or their grading procedures.

5. Review graded papers.

KEY NOTE:  Your instructor rules! I am a resource only. I am not here to earn, or guarantee you a grade on your assignment. You must pay attention to, and abide by your instructor's requirements for each and every assignment.

I cannot guarantee you a turn around time so the sooner you submit your questions/papers, the better.

When you are ready to begin, just click on the big blue birdBe sure your subject line says "TUTOR".
